GL.iNET Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) discussions

I would like to ask some other questions about the Flint2. If it is not you here, I wouldn'n know where else to ask.

Only to get a idea about the strength of WiFi.
How is signal in comparison for example to a FritzBox7590 with its built in antennas?
+/-same, better or much better?

Are there still restrictions, faults or problems in the WiFi drivers for this router?
And are these opensource drivers in OpenWRT fine or is it better to stay with the GLi ones?

thanks in advance

So beta 4.8 is not based in 24 either?

OP24 would be the most compatible with openwrt as they seem to use the opensource driver.

But then they won't have the performance and adventages (don't know which they are) they say the propietary driver have, so I am not sure they provide any advantage at all.

May be just the interface and that they have some preinstalled packages and an easier way to config vpn and things like that.

I am using openwrt in this device.

Was not me who asked first for the original firmware.

Apologies - I didn't intend to reply to you, but rather a generic reply as a reminder for everyone. I've removed my previous reply and pasted it below as a general link for everyone.

Official gl.inet forum for OEM firmware support

Does this require a recompiled kernel with this option enable or is it something that can be triggered on the existing kernel?

It's a kernel command line parameter so it would need support enabled and compiled in for non-grub devices.

I feel like this won't work, but I'll ask anyway. Is it possible to upload my backup settings from a Netgear R7800 running 23.05 to the GLI Flint2 running 24.10.1?

Not likely without some headaches along the way. Some config files would be fine to drop-in from the old backup, but others like network, dhcp, wireless, and sqm will have interface specific naming in them that likely will change from your R7800 to the MT6000.

Thanks for the heads up!

Hi Everybody. First time post. Just went and installed my flint 2 to replace my old open-wrt router. I went vanilla image openwrt-24.10.1 flashed with uboot. Everything is working great. Only question is about the 2.4ghz speed. It seems slower than I would think it should be. Seems to be capping at around 100Mbits. Slower than my older router. I have very few devices that utilize it so I'm not too concerned but was wondering if it was a known thing with the open source drivers maybe? 5ghz is capping at my 1gig isp so no problems there.

I don't use 2.4ghz for anything other than IOT, but I feel like I remember it being similar in behavior to yours.

Mine its around the same too, I don't use mine for anything but IOT :call_me_hand:

Does the MT6000 have any aquantia adaptors? on 24.10.1, I run lsmod and the aquantia module is present. Would like to understand where it comes from.

Good catch I don't think so. Might be left over from the bpi-r3 config which is similar but uses it for SFP. I think kmod-phy-aquantia should be removed.

That's what I figured - I didn't think MT6000 needs it. Added an issue to track it.

Sounds like I’m good. Thanks for the replies!

How does this have anything to do with MT6000?
