GL.iNet - Beryl 7 - GL-MT3600BE

Something new is coming. And... it’s green.

There’s no display, and the design looks a bit cheap :anxious_face_with_sweat: .

I bet it will have the MT7987.

I hope it's Mediatek,

Cudy have sadly used a completely unsupported Broadcom:

Cuddy was officially supporting Openwrt with easy installation etc and then went off track with some of their WiFi 7 routers.

Now I think I know where the green comes from…

-> Yes, it should be MediaTek — the “MT” in GL-MT3600BE has traditionally stood for:

GL-BE9300 is obviously Qualcomm, because there's a B and E in Qualcomm.

There is also a Flint 3e coming....

Someone said that the Slate line has Qualcomm and the Beryl has Mediatek and that has been true for the last two generations.

?
The specs sheet is still released (yes it is Qualcomm):

But "BE" stands for Wifi 7 ("AX" stands for Wifi 6)?

It looks like that actually MediaTek gets a "MT" ... hopefully

It seems that GL.iNet didn’t include an SFP at all —
in times of expanding fiber networks!

I’m also hoping for a home router with MediaTek (though I don’t think the Flint 3E will be one of them).

But looking at the Beryl 7, it really feels like they’re treating MediaTek as a cheap brand :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Maybe there’ll be an OpenWrt two under the Christmas tree…

The official FCC web site was of no help, trying to find internal photos so we can nail down the chipset inside... (Trump admin's government shutdown has disabled searches for documents on the FCC site.)

But I was able to retrieve this document from here which indicates GL-iNet requested confidentiality of the internal photos until 180 days after approval, or the device goes on sale (whichever is sooner). Approval was in May 2025, so 180 days will be met in late October/early November, but it's up to the FCC web site then to be online to publish the photos. Hopefully government shutdown will be over, or GL-iNet will release it...

Actually, I just saw this at the bottom of the FCC's May 2025 approval notice:

"Class II Permissive change as specified under 47 CFR 2.1043 of the FCC rules was applicable for replaced chip QCN6422 with QCN6412, no other RF performance was impacted."

So there is a Qualcomm QCN-6412, Wi-Fi 7 RF system-on-chip (SoC) in this device.

The link you uploaded leads to a page that contains a link to Amazon:
grafik

And that Amazon link points to the Slate 7, right?

And that Amazon link points to the Slate 7, right?

That's just a link to a search on Amazon for "Dual-band Wi-Fi 7 Travel Router" which of course returns the one currently for sale.

OP's image is green and the model name has "MT" in it which is making people think this is a new product with Mediatek chips inside.

We'll have to wait and see.

I think I was wrong, because the link only leads to an Amazon search for “Dual-band Wi-Fi 7 Travel Router”...

A qualcomm chip will make it inconsistent with pervious branding. Finger crossed.

Okay this confirms the FCC documents I analyzed were all about the currently available Qualcomm-powered Slate 7.

This is the product label from the box of the Slate 7, identifying itself with the same FCC ID as the documents I posted (2AFIW-BE3600, meaning it's the older device, not whatever this new green "MT3600BE" is):

Unfortunately, with the FCC being "closed" due to the U.S. government shutdown, we may not see any official documents about the "GL-MT3600BE" until after the shutdown ends.

Did anyone tried looking at source files for product page.

Wouldn't it make more sense to just wait until this gets formally disclosed? After all GL.Inet usually doesn't hide this info (once it actually hits the market) - and you won't be able to determine feasibility before anyone tried their luck anyways (secure boot (less likely for GL.Inet, flash/ RAM, SOC and other potential hurdles). Betting on future device support is a gamble with the odds stacked against you.

Bruce from GL.iNet confirmed it’s using Mediatek SoC.
