GL-iNet AX1800 new router - OpenWrt support?

Right can someone with a slate ax check something for me. Whats the port next to the USB port labelled as mine says LAN1 but only works at 100MB whilst the other two ports are 1GB the last one is labelled WAN.

Good news, I am building a new image for both the Flint and the Slate AX.

Build: r22867
Download: snapshots (solidus1983.duckdns.org) (Currently Compiling)

Whats Working:

  • USB
  • SDCARD
  • LAN
  • WAN
  • WiFi (80hz on 5GHz)
  • Thermal Sensors

Whats not working:

  • WDS/Reset Button
  • Fan Control

Known issues:

  • Fan spins at max speed

The old builds have been removed due to space constraints on the server it runs on.

If you want to run 4G/5G USB sticks you will need to download the relevant packages as the build is as slim as possible.

Does this also apply when attaching a mobile phone as a source of data?

Yes, however the packages are on the webserver as I compile everything that's not basic stuff as modules for now

My main interest is in running 5G modems in the usb slot (via and adaptor) such as quectel rm502 and rm520. Your need to add ncm mbim qmi and modern manager packages. Rm502 works fine ...

How is the 5G dongles going btw?

The official firmware has this neat setting:

Does the above-mentioned status update mean that the fan setting doesn't work but fan works all the time, right? The router won't overheat?

Fan Control not working
Fan spins at max speed

Sorry for disturbance with my silly questions... I wonder if this toggle setting is supported for ATX1800:

Rm502 works fine. Can't yet get rm520 to work!

The fan on the router is running at maximum speed and there is no fan control supported at the moment. Hope this will be fixed in the near future.

Many thanks for your big achievement that everything now works including USB on AX1800 Flint. My only two issues are the changed WIFI BSSIDs after every reboot and the failed ipv6 test. I use the same SSID but distinguish between routers by BSSID. Enabled ipv6 might put VPN users at risk.

the Fan Settings is using a program that GL-inet made to control the fan rather then the kernel, i am after the kernel to control the fan.

BSSID is that related to Mac address ?

If it is use LUCI to set the MAC under the Interfaces Advanced Settings tab. That should be an idea temp fix for now.

I've tried out the most recent firmware Build: r22867, but it appears that the AXT1800 is unable to establish an internet connection. Furthermore, I am unable to ping any external websites or IP addresses beyond the local network. Here is the system log:

Edit: The error has something to do with the DNS it is not configured in a proper way in case, you hard-reset all the settings.

Well, I've just flashed r22867 to my AXT1800 and am posting this message using it as an client. And I can ping internet addresses This build seems ok to me, so far...

EDIT - However, I've tried to download software packages and something is wrong - can't download the package lists. Get errors like:

opkg_download: Failed to download https://flint.solidus1983.duckdns.org/snapshots/r22813/targets/ipq60xx/generic/packages/Packages.gz, wget returned 8.
 * opkg_download: Failed to download https://flint.solidus1983.duckdns.org/snaps

Help?

SECOND EDIT - I see the directory is wrong - it points at 22813 and then works when I edit it to point at 22867 ...

Have you upgraded your firmware without hard reset?

I think your /etc/opkg/distfeeds.conf wasn't updated because you kept using the old settings. There might be an issue with the DNS, after I configued it manually, it seems to work.

Glad you got it working on OPKG, i even checked the config file and it did have the correct folder setup

CONFIG_VERSION_REPO="https://flint.solidus1983.duckdns.org/snapshots/r22867"

Although distfeeds.conf is still ment to update during an upgrade.

I have just realised, I think it is my fault... I flashed to 22867 via uboot and I think it was still running 22813 - so when I tried to update packages it looked for 22813 directory. Thus I don't think I flashed correctly.

I have now flashed from the GUI (normally less reliable!) and it's now running 22867 and loads the cellular packages (ie, QMI, NCM, MBIM and ModemManager) fine. I am sending this message via the AXT1800 so it's working fine.

Thanks!

Another comment - the AXT1800 is FAST! The web gui is very responsive and everything, including booting, happens quickly...

Final comment - it may interest you to know I've got a new gl-iNet router on pre-order - the Spitz AX (GL-X3000) / 4G LTE CAT16. The 5G version is too expensive and as far as I can see, the cellular modem is removable so I hope to use one of my 5G devices.

It's expected at the end of May or so!
Perhaps I will start another OpenWRT thread when it arrives...
