Follow on conversation for TP-Link Archer A6 v2 5GHz improvements, including user support

Hi all.

Compiled now a new snapshot build, based on @fgsilveira board-2.bin and .dts.
It´s on my pCloud.

this is the best transfer i've achieved with build #156 of april 26 (Powered by LuCI Master (git-21.112.13639-7d61b38 / OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r0+16582-3326b5e75c)
5ghz ch 149 power 30dbm or 22 dbm, no difference
just a strange behaviour, performance drops after 8-9 seconds, then up again, then down again...

Your build is working very well. it will be helpful, if you upload your all builds into one link. @julianocs

Thanks & Regards,
@humanOS

sorry for the late reply, I don't remember which build number as I renamed the file, but it was before build 100.

Hi @humanOS

I do not keep a history of my builds because they always contain the same packages,
i just change board-2.bin file and update to the latest snapshot.

BTW, i learned how to extract the boarddata from the original TP-link firmware.
I compiled a new version using the board-2.bin that i extracted from the latest TP-link firmware. It is in my pCloud, folder 3.

@pdinc-oss
I uploaded the board-2.bin file too, in case you want to make a new variant (folder 3 and 4)

Juliano

has any of the changes from here been merged into mainline openwrt? Openwrt 21.02 stable is going to be released soon-ish, and it would be good if it has better support for Archer A6/C6.

@iow41099

I do not think so.

Merge this into official ath10k board-2.bin it is not easy.
I don't have much experience with this, but i can help if someone can help to do so.
Thats the only reason that i always share my "builds".

Juliano.

Testing on the new firmware. Will let you know how it goes.

Testing 5GHz fails with kernel log msg:

ath10k_pci 0000:00:00.0: Invalid peer id 0 or peer stats buffer, peer: b248c355 sta: 00000000

Connection to router via wifi remains but all LAN/WAN connections drop out.

System

Hostname OpenWrt
Model TP-Link Archer C6 v2 (US) / A6 v2 (US/TW)
Architecture Qualcomm Atheros QCA956X ver 1 rev 0
Firmware Version OpenWrt SNAPSHOT r16640-b607e7df34 / LuCI Master git-21.124.24916-0faf9a4
Kernel Version 5.4.115

There seems to be some previous work on the driver to configure this on other versions but not sure if relevant. I have included a link jic.

https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-wireless/patch/1512480685-28471-4-git-send-email-akolli@qti.qualcomm.com/

Running with the 5GHz radio off all appears to be ok.

Has someone tried the 21.02 on the C6?

A post was split to a new topic: Archer C6 v2 US bricked

Is the pdinc website down?

hey, are the builds here now based on openwrt release 21 or 19, and also, has anyone tried the 21 release from openwrt for the c6?

I've tried the 21.02 and 21.03 on c6 v2 eu, no problems at all with these builds.
The only problem i've found is that one of the 3 c6 i own, doesn't reboot at all.

A bit of the late reply, but
I've been using OpenWrt 21.02.0 r16279-5cc0535800 / LuCI openwrt-21.02 branch git-21.231.26241-422c175 as a daily driver for the past 2 weeks, have several issues with the 5GHz but it's circumventable with a few bits and bumps here and there; for example I learnt how important it is to set the country on WiFi.
I often find my Poco M3 disconnected from WiFi, my Macbook Pro 2017 doesn't like the 5GHz, it works for a few seconds and then the internet just stops.
Overall, I'm really loving the amount of control it gives me over the device, I've learnt a lot by installing it.
It was my first time trying Open WRT tho.

Has there been any meaningful changes to this device? Been months, I no longer need to use it since my ISP's router isn't as terrible as it used to be and it got swapped out. But I still see some value in it...

I've just installed OpenWrt 22.03.3 on one of these - seems pretty stable, but the range on the 5Ghz seems quite small - looking for tips on how to increase the range.

Hello. I need the cmd commands for Linux Mint, and executing OpenWRT factory image. I don't find the commands in forums. Very thanks :grinning:

Any new builds out there?
