What other things, specifically (your title says "firewall and LuCI")?
Generally, you should make one thread per issue.
And I will ask again - why are you removing the firewall? It’s not necessary to do so nor is it recommended.

While I'm not thread owner, I found my answer above,
and my answer to your question "why" is "flash space".
Of course, this only works if we can drop firewall stuff from image, not by opkg overlay overwrite of packages in squashfs.
Correct, and why take processing resources on APs that don't need it, nor have it, in stock firmware?
