Failing building CONFIG_SRC_TREE_OVERRIDE

I am trying to build my local modified version of package (microsocks) so I can check in on my openwrt device ( Netgear WAC104 ).
I tried to follow https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-developer/packages#config_src_tree_override but got stuck with error:

make[3]: Entering directory '/home/matkor/src/openwrt-test/build_dir/target-mipsel_24kc_musl/microsocks-1.0.3'
make[3]: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.

I can build packages without ./feeds/packages/net/microsock/git-src link fine.
I can build (make) inside ~/src/microsocks also fine.

But having

ln -s /home/matkor/src/microsocks/   feeds/packages/net/microsocks/git-src
make package/microsocks/compile -j1 V=s

fails.
Any hints? TIA

From wiki, note the /.git

ln -s /path/to/local/awesome_app_tree/.git feeds/my_cool_feed/awesome_app/git-src
make package/awesome_app/{clean,compile} V=s

Sorry, my bad, now I have:

feeds/packages/net/microsocks/git-src -> /home/matkor/src/microsocks/.git

and building works.

Thank you very much!
