Failed to upgrade 25.12.0

Hi All,

I am using banana bpi-r4 with 24.10.5.

I am trying to upgrade 25.12.0 from either way, but failed.

  1. Attended sysupgrade → the upgrade process cancelled while installing and back to system page.
  2. owut command → return with followings:

ERROR: sysupgrade validation failed: stderr = XXXX upgrade: The device is supported, but the config is incompatible to the new image (1.0->1.1). Please upgrade without keeping config (sysupgrade -n). XXXX upgrade: The non-switch ports were renamed to match the board/case labels Image check failed.

I know that there is some basic changes from the new release with my router model I am using.

May I seek the help?

Did you try what to do what the error message told you ?

Thanks, and no, since i don’t want to fresh upgrade, would

want to keep config

Have fun staying at 24.10.

Export the config, manually copy it back post upgrade, check network file for changes, before you do.

The release notes say

Bananapi BPI-R4: Interfaces ''eth1'' was renamed to ''sfp-lan'' or ''lan4'', and interface ''eth2'' was renamed to ''sfp-wan'' to match the labels. You have to upgrade without saving the configuration.

You should read the release notes before upgrading

Thanks All

If you aren't relying on the SFP ports, an easy way to do this which I just did is to remove the SFP ports from the br-lan and br-wan devices, generate a backup, do the attended sysupgrade without restoring settings (you will still keep your extra modules), and then restore that backup.

Then you can add the two SFP ports back into the br-lan and br-wan devices.

Thanks Sarah for the alternative

I will try this but will have a good backup plan first.
