Factory upgrade to OpenWrt, config remained (Engenius ESR1750)

I have a couple of Engenius ESR1750 AP's, which have some issues. I want to replace the default firmware with OpenWrt.

I have downloaded the ....factory.dlf OpenWrt version. can I upgrade the original firmware with this version to get OpenWrt on it?

What about the config, will it be accessible through the same IP address as it has now, or will it be accessible on a default IP address?

Openwrt will start with default configuration ie 192.168.1.1 and no password and no radios.

Yes, the instructions are at the commit note.

Thanks but I have an issue:

I have downloaded the file which is here called the factory image. The file name is: openwrt-23.05.5-ath79-generic-engenius_esr1750-squashfs-factory.dlf

When selecting this file for the firmware upgrade (using the gui) I get a message 'invalid file'. What should I do to get OpenWrt on the device?

Use the alternative install option from the link @sandberg provided ?

I have read the page at the link @sandberg provided, but few more questions.

method1 refers to a 'factory.bin' file, but no further detail which bin file.

The alternate way refers to tftp, which mentions it requires a serial console. but doesn't mentioned how to setup this serial connection. So I am a bit stuck now, and afraid that i need some more details to go ahead.

Go to download page - see anything factory - that is the single-use install file.

https://openwrt.org/toh/engenius/esr1750 should answer most of your questions.

I wish it was that simple. I have posted the error above, which says: 'invalid file', when using the '...factory...' file.

I guess I need to use the serial connection to get the job done.

Here we are, document sha256sum of file you upload and OEM fw version.
Lets see if it is worth trying downgrading OEM fw, or you clicked wrong buttons.

The sha256sum of the file is: 7ea9c90dac04048eb30006c7d57873d0d8928bfcfaacf6ceb915e89c721497d1

the firmware version is 2.1.1

Device page bootlog says 1.1.0.23.
Can you help with a link to oem fw downloads?

Trying to find a download page, but it doesn't seem that easy.
By the way, in the gui it is called the 'application version'. found somewhere on the internet that they mean the firmware version with that.

Here is a page, but it lacks the ESR1750. there is one line that mentions:

https://www.engeniustech.com/wp_firmware/

Have you got any idea what I could do to get openwrt on the device?

You didn't really read the wiki entry, did you ?

Sure I did, but the information didn't make it clear whether I needed to use tftp or not. I was on the track to easily install openwrt using the default gui of the device. This was what the wiki mentioned as well.

As you were told, if the plain install fails, try the 2nd option, which is serial + TFTP.
