Extroot Doubt - Boot up the router without USB dongle after extroot config

Hello everybody, thanks in advance for helping me!
I’m going to set up an extroot configuration following this guide, in order to have some additional storage on my mini router.
What happens if after some time I boot my router without the USB dongle attached?
Will it freeze or simply boot up as usual using internal memory?

exroot is for additional software, functionality would be .... missing ?

The device will boot as it did the moment before you performed the extroot process. That is to say that the configuration and installed packages would revert to what existed prior to using extroot (unless you have changed this configuration since by removing the extroot storage and making changes).

Everything will work normally within the context of the pre-extroot config and packages.
