External HDD gets unmounted due to errors

Since the day I did a clean install of OpenWrt on my router I am having some troubles with my external hdd.
I am mounting it with this command:
ntfs-3g /dev/sdb2 /mnt/ext_hdd -o rw,noatime,async,big_writes

After some time, even if it is not being accessed, it gets "kicked out".
My mount point "mnt/ext_hdd" gets deleted aswell.
I always have to recreate the mount point, remount the drive and restart all service like DLNA / Samba.

As a workaround... Could someone tell me if it is possible to run a script on the router itself that checks if "mnt/ext_hdd" exists and if does the following:

Those I/O errors seem very scary, you might be corrupting the filesystem, and end loosing all data on that drive... Are you sure you want to mask the errors, instead of trying to fix the issue?

For the time being, yes!
The data on the drive is not important at all...

I wanted to change the filesystem on the drive some time in the near future to something else!

Are you using one of the 18.06.* stable builds, and if so is the mount point getting deleted from Luci>System>Startup>Local Startup? If so it might be the bug that clears out /etc/rc.local occasionally.

This is the file that would need to be modified -

/usr/lib/lua/luci/model/cbi/admin_system/startup.lua

If you're on 18.06.* you can apply the fix I linked, if you're on master it should already be fixed.

I am not using the startup script, I am using block-mount instead on 18.06.4

But do you know how my workaround script would need to look like?

Sorry I don't, I've never had to use one myself. You might try the putting the mount command in /etc/rc.local if you haven't already, I never had any luck with ntfs using block mount.

Seems like my 4 TB Seagate drive was indeed starting to die.
Luckily I replaced it with a bigger WD before it was getting worse and now no more errors or random unmounts.
