Extend WiFi and Get Wired Connectivity

Hi

I am trying to understand the right setup and terminology. I have a non OpenWRT router (ASUS) providing both wired and WiFi connectivity across my home. I have a Netgear R6350 that I have flashed with OpenWRT. I would like to use this to extend my existing WiFI network i.e. to act like an access point. I would however also like to use the LAN ports on the 6350 to hardwire some devices into it. I also have a hard wired connection I can make between my ASUS and Netgear. What might be my best options? It seems like using it as a dumb AP doesnt let me use the LAN ports.

Thanks in advance

R

With a mix of OpenWrt and non-OpenWrt APs, only the rather fragile (and buggy, no IPv6) https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/relay_configuration is possible. If you can install OpenWrt on both devices, https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wifi/atheroswds would be a much more reliable approach.

You can use lan ports even when it is a dumb ap.
