EM7455 / Kroks Kndrt31r19 Router Help No AT Port

First off, I am a 77 year old Newbie when it comes to doing anything with OpenWrt/ModemManager. So, Please go easy on me. I have been trying to resolve this problem for over a week now. Searching, reading and trying things to no resolve.

I have PUTTY and WinSCP and can get around them both so so.

I will try as hard as I can to provide ANY info that is needed to find a resolution. Just be for warned that I may also need help to provide that information.

I can not get the manufacturer of my router to respond to Emails asking for help. I believe this is because I am in the United States and the are in Moscow Russia.

With all that said on to the problem.

I have a Kroks SIM Injector Kndrt31r19 router with a Sierra Wireless EM7455 modem installed.
The router and modem are located in the antenna enclouser which is mount on top of my 80 foot tower. The SIM Injector is located in my living room.
This system has work without a problem for the last 3 years.
It preparation of Upgrading the EM7455 modem to either a EM 7511 or Quectel EM12-G, I found the most current router firmware on Kroks website.
I preformed a Backup of the Original router firmware and proceeded to do the update.

From the release notes:"os:transition to OpenWrt 05/23/3" I believe this is meant to say Openwrt 23.05.3.
I have No idea what the original version was.

When the update finished and the router rebooted, not everything still works.
I can and do get an Internet connection. But I get NO Signal information and the Big Problem, the router AT Command terminal no longer works.

It appears that it is seeing the modem, but for some reason the AT Commands do not work.

These next 3 lines are from the ModemManager debug log file:

The firmware you're currently running doesn't appear to be OpenWrt at all, so we have no idea what the vendor has changed there or what might misbehave. You'd have to install real OpenWrt first, if you need help from us (the device itself seems to be supported, but getting the 4g/ 5g functionality working might need a little experience).

Just to add some generic explanation:

It appears you are using firmware that is not from the official OpenWrt project.

When using forks/offshoots/vendor-specific builds that are "based on OpenWrt", there may be many differences compared to the official versions (hosted by OpenWrt.org). Some of these customizations may fundamentally change the way that OpenWrt works. You might need help from people with specific/specialized knowledge about the firmware you are using, so it is possible that advice you get here may not be useful.

You may find that the best options are:

  1. Install an official version of OpenWrt, if your device is supported (see https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org).
  2. Ask for help from the maintainer(s) or user community of the specific firmware that you are using.
  3. Provide the source code for the firmware so that users on this forum can understand how your firmware works (OpenWrt forum users are volunteers, so somebody might look at the code if they have time and are interested in your issue).

If you believe that this specific issue is common to generic/official OpenWrt and/or the maintainers of your build have indicated as such, please feel free to clarify.

I see in the kernel log that two ttyUSBs attached to the modem, but it is usually the third one (ttyUSB2) that is used for AT commands. The modem may have become improperly configured. If you remove the modem card and use a USB to M2 adapter to connect the modem to a PC you can configure and test it, that may be the best way to rule out hardware failure.

I'm not sure how the remote SIM would work. Is the MT7628 system (which runs OpenWrt) in the indoor box or the antenna box?

I believe the problem is in the ModemManager.

This is a unique router in the fact that it uses a remote form the modem/router SIM Injector.

I just don't know where or how to get help to get the AT Command terminal to work again.

The part that runs OpenWrt is in the antenna enclosure 80 feet in the air along with the modem.
I just don't understand why it worked for 3 years then the firmware update killed the AT Command terminal.
I know the EM7455 modem was set to mbim mode when installed.
Is there a way to see if the new firmware uses mbim or qmi mode that you know of?

Would the firmware update file be of use?
