Edgerouter ER10x and kernel_e50

I didn't give up :slight_smile: I'm too stubborn for that, but I've had other things I've had to focus on.

I was able to make the ER10x work with the already-baked in ralink drivers in the 5.10 kernel. With the exception of the Eth5 port. In looking at the rtl8367rb datasheet, there are ports 0-4 + cpu + e0 and e1 ports. The mt7621 has gmac1 available. I'm wondering if it couldn't be connected that way shrug

that's definitely to do with the changes to the DTS file in 5.x

i am a fan of 4.14 myself for this reason. i didn't like the addition of the "gmac1" nodes and things like that. DSA is all the rage these days apparently.

i found the openwrt mediatek driver for 4.14 to be 'better' too, in the sense it had hardware nat using flow_offload (for wired devices only). maybe they've incorporated that into the newer kernels now.

I've got the 4.14 kerne from Ubiquiti, but it doesn't like building or booting once built :slight_smile:

There was a split somewhere between 4.14 and 5.10 in the kernel drivers and where things live. The MediaTek stuff moved to ralink, but not all of it. So the DTS issue could certainly just be a missing driver issue.

It doesn't help that I'm not overly familar with the dts format itself :smiley:

i would look at the driver you have in the 4.14 dir. if it references 'gmac' or stuff like that, you're using the wrong one.

paste some of the source of your 4.14 driver and we can see if that's part of the problem.

the strangest thing is you're not getting a terminal printout, and i want to say that has to do with something in the kernel. wanna paste your full 4.14 kernel configuration?

The &gmac1 is part of the mt7621 device tree. That's the primary board, the rtl is an add-on.

So, if I could enable the gmac1 port on the mt7621 and send the ephy (e0/e1) from the rtl to it as the rgmii connection, it would eliminate the need to use port@5 on the switch0 mt7621 define, which is where I think the issue is with eth5.

so right now your preference, if i understand you correctly, is to get a 5.10 kernel running with the older ethernet driver, correct?

could you elaborate as to what is missing in the driver for the device to get full acceleration? what is the older driver that does give full acceleration? what is that dts configuration?

i hate the dts setup for DSA, but it is what it is. maybe we can work with what the GPL code gives and find a solution.

i assume the dts+mtk_eth_soc from 4.14 do give full acceleration, but DSA is disabled?

Ubiquiti doesn't use DSA in the 4.14 kernel, it explicitly calls CONFIG_SWCONFIG=y in the arch/mips/configs/ubnt_er_e50_defconfig, which is what I used as my starting point.

However, the mt7621 is DSA now, and afaik, the rtl8367rb is not.
