I dusted off my Edgerouter ER-X and upgraded from 23.x to 24.10.5. However, now it’s no longer booting or running from POE-in as it did on 23.x. Any idea how to enable POE-in on 24.10?
AFAIK, PoE-in is an entirely passive circuit in that it doesn't require any configuration at all.
The PoE input does not use standard 802.3af/at/bt PoE... it instead uses 24V passive PoE (which is rather uncommon these days). Make sure you're using the correct type of adapter/PSE (a standard PoE switch will not work; it would need to be one that can specifically output 24V passive PoE and this must be used with care since passive PoE can blow ports on devices that are not expecting PoE).
Thx for the quick reply! You are right, I also changed switches some time ago from Ubiquiti to Zyxel. I’ll check the POE standards.
I don’t believe that zyxel switches support passive poe. Very few vendors do. In fact, all of the current Unifi switches lack this support, making the old ones that do have this feature (like the US8-150W and similar models of that era) a bit more valuable.
