Edgerouter 4, I can't access the serial console

Hi, I have a Ubiquiti Edgerouter 4 on which I wanted to install OpenWRT. I purchased an RS232 RJ45 to USB cable to access the console, but the output is only garbage text.

I have tried two cables and neither works.

I have also tried various baudrates like 9600 or what should be 115200, I have tried on Linux with screen and on Windows with PuTTY and TeraTerm but I can never access the terminal.

I have tried, to rule out options, to downgrade to EdgeOS 2 but it doesn't change anything. After reviewing the EdgeOS cmdline it indicates a baud rate of 115200.

Welcome to EdgeOS
ubnt@EdgeRouter-4:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootdelay=10 rw rootsqimg=squashfs.img rootsqwdir=w mtdparts=spi32766.0:2048k(boot0),2048k(boot1),64k(eeprom) console=ttyS0,115200 rootwait rootflags=data=journal

I hope you can help me. I've already asked for help on Discord and the OpenWRT Reddit, and no one has been able to find a solution. Thanks.

Please edit away nonsensical images and…

use the "Preformatted text </>" button for logs, scripts, configs and general console output.

Please edit your post accordingly. Thank you! :slight_smile:

Which pins are connected ti PCB?

I'm using the RJ45 serial connector on the front.

The images are to help you clearly understand which cable I'm using and the Teraterm settings. The information is to help provide information about the problem.

I bought another cable and it worked now.
I think it's because of the chip it used, maybe the ones I had used the CH340. The cable that worked has the PL2303GT.
