EA8300 / qca9888 wireless is not associated

Hello,

i have installed the lasted firmware.

EA8300 19.07.2

http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/19.07.2/targets/ipq40xx/generic/openwrt-19.07.2-ipq40xx-generic-linksys_ea8300-squashfs-factory.bin

When i checked the WIFI, radio0 was not active and it was not possible to activate it.
qca9886 802.11acn was mentioned.

openwrt wireless is not associated

What can i do now ? Is QCA9888 not supported by openwrt ?

Mathias

I've installed OpenWrt 19.07.3, r11063-85e04e9f46 on the ea8300 for the first time today.
A. I am not able to see (although enabled?) radio0 SSID.
B. radio1 and radio2 show up as "Generic 802.11nac": is this expected?
C. 2.4G radio connectivity is slow, not sure this is expected as well (slower than original FW, same env.)

Hi Ido,

Did you manage to resolve your issues?

I got my EA8300 running fine, still need help?

It's running, but I'm still having issues.
A. Can you confirm which channels you are using on which radio? It seems not all of them are working correctly.
B. I have not tested this, but I think that signal is powerful than OEM FW, did you notice such a thing?

A.
Channels auto on all radios
40Mhz wide on #1, n mode, b support not checked, max power
80Mhz on #0 and #2, Ac mode, max power

B. Yes, I seem to have stronger signal tha stock OEM, my Apple devices show three bars on the Wi-Fi signal now, they used to show 2 in the farther rooms.

More notes on radios :

  • Three, fully-functional radios; iw phy reports (FCC/US, -CT):
    * 2.4 GHz radio at 30 dBm
    * 5 GHz radio on ch. 36-64 at 23 dBm
    * 5 GHz radio on ch. 100-144 at 23 dBm (DFS), 149-165 at 30 dBm
    #{ managed } <= 16, #{ AP, mesh point } <= 16, #{ IBSS } <= 1
    * All two-stream, MCS 0-9

Note different channel/power support depending on radio

A. In my case, stock FW is stronger.
I did not change max output though. I read that it is not recommended in general.

B. In some cases, the second 5Ghz phy (high index channels), is sometimes not detected by my Dell laptop. It is visible by the iPhone though. When I change channels this behavior changes. Again, I do not recall it in stock FW.

```Preformatted text
Other then these weird things, the FW itself is stable and I did not find any need to reboot the unit in a month of use.
Did you update your software since installed, you mention you didn' reboot for a month ?
Also, there should be no reason you can't use max power, this router has huge heats inks compared to many other routers, the heat should be properly dissipated, unless already in a hot environment
I'm running OpenWrt 19.07.3 r11063-85e04e9f46 / LuCI openwrt-19.07 branch git-20.146.54255-39d5f2e, I don't think it was updated any way with regard to qca9888.
As for max power, my concern wasn't heat, but signal distortion(?), and the fact I've read that it doesn't actually increase coverage due to WiFi being bidirectional, and that it does not good if the client isn't configured to transmit back a strong enough signal. This might be incorrect though?
In LuCi, System, Software, Update lists, Updates, are ther no updates showing up to be installed ?
I had two sets of updates in the last week, totaling nearly 40 packages...
As for the radios running full power, see my first post :
I fixed a few issues upgrading to EA8300 running 19.07.3 with radios at full power.
What can I say other that it worked for me and it fixed a few real Wi-Fi issues I had...
Im having the same issues with this router. Never got qualcomm to enable. Generic works but the speeds are terrible and eventually drag out to nothing.
Try to set manually the country code.
