EA8300 mesh: max throughput iperf3 test

Purpose:

  • Test iperf3 simultaneously on all 3 nodes across 180 seconds.

  • Test on channel 36 at low power then high power.

  • Test on channel 149 at low power then high power.

EA8300 mesh:

  • 3 nodes, triangle layout, 802.11s, 19.07.7

  • 5Ghz radio dedicated for mesh VHT-80, SAE

  • other network devices shut off for test

  • test initiated sequentially 1, 2, 3, (concurrent server and client)

  • nodes 1 and 2 in same room: 18 ft apart partially obscured by furniture

  • node 3 is in a different room obscured by wall: 30 ft from node 2, 15ft from node 1

  • node 1 and node 3 are both near windows but in different rooms

  • previously tested single node to node performance ~360Mbps

n2 → n3: -50/102dBm, 63K errors, 133 Mbps send, 132 receive

n3 → n1: -57/104, 44.4K errors, 169 Mbps send, 168 receive

Conclusion:

Both bands have ~10 visible AP’s in the neighborhood.

I’m going with channel 149.

True Story:

I caught node 2 duplicating BSSID’s for AP’s on radio 2 (ch 36) which caused some clients to be unable to access internet.

Tried mixing two C7’s (one root, one TV) with two EA8300s (serving AP’s) in a mesh. They didn’t like it and would temporarily freeze every 15 minutes for a minute or two and recover.
