E8450/RT3200 gigabit speeds tweaking?

i'm using the UBI variant,sysupgraded to r19075
i'm getting about 40% COU load (CPU core 0 only) with 320000 kbit/s up/down symmetric limit
i have irqbalance started, but doesnt seem to do anything.
is this load consistent with others?

my SQM shows different interfaces; i chose 'WAN'. does this make sense?

Yes, you have to select wan. You can follow these quick steps:

Use the config file in this post: E8450/RT3200 gigabit speeds tweaking? - #72 by okibcn
restart sqm service
Set DL and UL speeds to about 90% of your bandwidth in kilobits per second (kbps)
slightly increase these values until latency starts growing too much. You can use fast.com or waveform.com to check the loaded vs unloaded latency. Usually, it is acceptable for any loaded latency below 60ms. Basically, with this process you sacrifice burst throughput for lower latency when the line is loaded.

This is a baseline, then you can start playing with the parameters, but at least this way you have a safe config to return to.

I just strapped my rt3200 into my LAN and to perform bandwidth tests with SQM (cake) active. Results are looking quite good - when shaping both rx and tx to 950000Kbps, these are the results:

Ingress shaping completely pegs one of the two cores - so that seems to effectively top out at around 800Mbps.

@colo, welcome to the forum. Regarding your test, iperf is quite good to test raw throughput of the physical layer, but this kind of synthetic test is completely misleading for testing QoS. Use it to check the throughput of your lines and wireless signal, but not for this.

Please, mind that any QoS will trade burst throughput for lower latency. Regarding the saturation of a single CPU, you can use irqbalance. It can help in some cases but do not expect miracles.

There was another report of the RT3200 shaping at 1Gbit rates. But I have seen other users complain they can only get about 500Mbit/s with this device.

So what rate can this device shape up to I wonder?

Well, with CAKE it's 500/600, but with fq_codel it's around 800/900...

Guyz, i have a Totolink A8000RU, with the same MT7622. i use the OpenWRT snapshot for this device, without anything special installed, only Hw offloading, and it handles my 1Gbit Fiber line finger in the nose, Cpu load is around 1.5% during the speed test.

You has a little bufferbloat, but minimum can you test with cake 700 700 and 600 600 et ainsi de suite

This is mine, with a heavy PS5 game downloading, software/hardware offloading on, packet steering on and irq installed.

There seems to be not much CPU usage. Will test bufferbloat in a bit.

Install the package sysstat.

To trace CPU usage -

pidstat -T TASK 2 (which snapshots every 2 seconds)

To log the results (name the file whatever you want) -

pidstat -T TASK 2 | tee -a Testfile.txt

CTRL-C to end the trace.

Log file will be in the root directory.

disable the hard/soft offloading and you'll see heavy cpu usage on 1 core

Then under those conditions do a videoconference with someone to see if realtime traffic is affected by the saturation of the line.
