Dumb AP - EAP615-Wall

Is anyone using the EAP615-Wall as dumb access points with OpenWRT? Have you noticed any performance issues compared to the stock firmware? What are the pros and cons of running OpenWRT?

Will Seamless Roaming be available on OpenWRT?

I compared stock and openwrt firmware and that seemed to be on par.

Regarding 'Seamless Roaming' - if you are referring to Fast roaming aka 802.11r then the answer is Yes.

Some Pros of running openwrt on an Access point

  • DFS channels (don't know if stock eap615 firmware supports this nowadays, but back in Jan 2024 that was not the case)
  • Many monitoring options (thermal cpu traffic signal) with the option to export those and visualize in Grafana
  • Frequent firmware updates
  • Fast GUI

Thanks for the detailed information. I am planning to use an Archer C6 v3 flashed on OpenWRT to act as a router with WiFi disabled and using EAP615 around the house as AP only.
