DS-Lite via external OpenWrt client possible?

Hello there,

I recently switched VDSL2 speeds from 50Mbit to 250Mbit and with this change my provider switched my connection from dual stack to dual stack lite (ds-lite).

Currently I own a Speedport Smart 4 which is quite capable hardware wise (Wifi6, Supervectoring, etc..), but sadly does not support ds-lite.
With this router I can sync the VDSL connection at nearly 290Mbits and get a IPv6 correctly. But ofcourse I do not get a IPv4 connection, which means parts of the internet are not usable fo me right now.

Would it be possible to leave the Smart 4 as combined Modem/Router/AP and connect an OpenWRT device as an client, which then does the IPv4 DS-Lite Tunnel for the network? (like on older RPI)
Would this lead to routing problems? (I am not really a network expert, but as I understand ds-lite connections are also just IPv6 until the ISP Gateway, right?)

Other alternatives are rather expensive: Buy new Router/Modem Combo with DS-Lite support, Buy new Router/AP and use existing Speedport as modem only.

Thanks in advance and best regards!
