Downgrade to 21.02 from 22.03

Folks:

Moving to 22.03, in the past, required that the kernel and partition layout for some device be changed using a serial port. And these devices have had new lease of life until next big change in the size of Kernel.

If for any reasons, we wanted to try and test/try an older version, will the downgrade seamlessly work from the Luci interface?

Or from CLI usung sysupgrade?

Please advise.

What device are you talking about?
Even 22.xx is old, why not heading for 23/24.xx?

Yes, I intend to use the latest. I was testing tailscale and change from iptables has made it difficult for installing tailscale on newer release. I expect that this too will get fixed but the curious cat wants to hook up a wnder4700 to tailscale (downgrade to 22 or even 21 just to test it out. But I dread having to flash this again using USB-TTL if the downgrade did not work.

Basically, downgrade a functional WNDR4700 from 23.xx (I recall that I had used a recipe from Chris using USB-TTL cable to overcome the layout limitation and allow for bigger kernel).

I am all for using newer as it is safer. This is just a test but I am lazy and don't want a brick in downgrade!!

Follow the factory installation procedure if available. It was designed to install OpenWrt 'from scratch', ie coming from OEM firmware.
