Don't understand power settings with Lula and Cisco Meraki MR18

Sorry for my bad knowledge of english and linux...

My item is a Cisco Meraki MR18 with Development Snapshot Bleeding Edge, r47958
(since 2 day's ;-))

Lula shows at Startup under Wireless Overview tree topics.

  1. Generic MAC80211 802.11bgn (radio0)
  2. Atheros AR9580 802.11 an (radio1)
  3. Atheros AR9580 802.11 abgn (radio2)

I edit all three with Advanced settings Country Code DE, Mode Access Point, Security WPA2-PSK, ... identical

radio0 (24.. MHz) works like expected Transmit Power range max 20bBM (100mW) [Delimitted for Germany]
radio1 (51/57 MHz) works not like expected. Transmit Power range max 16bBM (39mW)

When i tempor. change all country's to Czech Republic (Where nearly over all double allowed)
there is no change in the maximum settings. So I think it's not a country delimitter.

Maximum hardware capability of the MR18 depends on Band/Mode/Data Rate beetween 19 and 24 dBM

At least ther could be a special country delimitter in Germany that delimit 5170-5350 MHz (Subband 1) indoor to
200mW (23dBm) with TPC (reduce power) and + DFS. Only Less when some properties absence. Then the maximum power is 30 or 60mW but never 39.
In Subband 2 similar but maximum power is higher.

Now to my question. What is the reason for the limit from 16dBm/39mW. I'm trust/hope that the MR18 understand TPC and DFS.
The max. power for radio1 don't change when i disable all other's.

I think you should be using only Radios 0 and 2. I believe radio1 is for DFS detection ONLY - do not attempt to disable it or use it.

  • Can you try using Radio2 for 5.4 GHz instead?

Thank's for responding. In my opinon it was a good tip looking for DFS detection. Radio1 and radio2 are able to config with 5GHz but both with low power.
I generate the supported device list, but i'm not able to understand that completly. Perhaps someone could say me witch radio is how to config for a wlan access point. In the Moment they are all configed as
"Normal" Access Point , but all disabled except Radio0. Now i understand that one radio needs a special config, but i don't know how.
