Does Openwrt for ZTE MF286R check for signal strength etc and choose bands/operator by itself or not?

I sometimes find ZTE MF286R kinda slow. There are very hard ways to change the operator and bands. But does openwrt does it on the backend already or not? Because some 4G operators and bands are indeed very slow.

These tasks are fully delegated to the modem on every OpenWrt router.

That said, there is a third-party installable package that may work for the manual selection:

Even though it does not explicitly support ZTE MF286R, it is still worth trying.

And this app works for checking the signal strength, the current band, etc.:

Okay dude thanks. You seem to know this stuff around. I use NCM currently, but there is also QMI or UQMI whatever. Which is better? I live in Türkiye. Maybe QMI does this stuff?

NCM vs QMI does not matter as long as both technologies are supported by the modem. In both cases, the only information sent by OpenWrt to the modem is the APN and whether to use IPv4, IPv6, or dual stack.
