Thanks @kar200 for providing me a link.
I think its better that I'll wait for your new compilation for it. Thanks again
hello there..I've just finished reading the whole thread, and just flashed Padavan on this second hand DIR583..it sure has bridge enabled but realize it doesn't have bandwidth control. Is there bandwith control for guests in Openwrt firmware? If I decide to go with Open wrt, how much work to go from Padavan to Openwrt?

Hi @pnkpanzer ,
What bandwidth control are you after? If you could elaborate a bit more about what you are trying to achieve we could try and help you better.
Hi kar200,
I just want to ask if you have resolve the issue that @throwaway pointed out. If you have some spare time kindly please compile a new version that can be flashed on top of this existing one and that can fix the issue.I don't really need a latest version, I just need something for the router to be stable enough and running.
And the thing u mention about the uboot recovery. Maybe u can teach us how to flash that in our DIR 853, Thanks @kar200 for reading this.

Hi @deathrob,
Yes and no. Yes the issue is fixed but no I don't have an image.
EDIT 2: you don't need a new image of you have issues with using the same Mac address it can be changed by editing the wireless config file and use any Mac address you like.
The DIR-853 has now been merged into openwrt master do you can download the latest snapshot and use it. Note that the snapshot does not contain luci (webserver) so you need to install it using "opkg update && opkg install Luci"
https://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/targets/ramips/mt7621/
For the uboot I didn't do it yet. It shouldn't take long so I will post it by tomorrow.
EDIT: YOU NEED TO USE TBE SYSUPGRADE IMAGE AND FLASH FROM THE WEB INTERFACE

First of all the big disclaimer
FLASHING YOUR DEVICE WITH UNSUPPORTED FIRMWARE CAN BRICK IT. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE NOR IS OPENWRT IF THE PROCEDURE BRICKS YOUR DEVICE
This procedure is not requried AT ALL. This is only to make recovery easier in the future for whoever bricks his router.
If you are not a flashing junky then skip this as if it fails it will make your router useless and good for landfill.
Ok it seems the dir-1360 uboot image works just fine with the dir-853-a3 and I could even recover directly by flashing the factory image.
If anyone is interested here is the file. The procedure is as follow (from openwrt)
This is the sha256sum of the file
4049e1eb6a0215292509be532e2c189ccf348c0b1dd957def617679bf6550501 1360-uboot.bin
The procedure is as follow. You need to copy the file to the /tmp folder of your router (scp, winscp...etc)
Then run the following commands. Please check the name of your mtd0 first as it seems I used Bootloader for the rc2 but for the images use in master not it is called u-boot
cat /proc/mtd
Then this is it!
opkg update && opkg install kmod-mtd-rw
insmod mtd-rw i_want_a_brick=1
From now on all the partitions of the router are writable.
then
mtd write /tmp/1360-uboot.bin Bootloader
Replace Bootlader by u-boot or whatever mtd0 is from the cat command.
Since the file size is small it will be quick. Now your router has the new bootloader.
you can reboot your router and hope it works
Again this is not mandatory but just make the router easily recoverable with the dlink emergency room without opening the box in case of a bricked device
Hi @kar200
Thank you for uploading and using your precious time for this.
*If can guide me to how to edit or put the mac address in winscp, which command/code should we type inside the config.
*If the rc3 before the you upload had luci in it, is okay to upgrade from rc3 to this recent snapshot that has no luci through web browser, Please just guid me on what's the order to flash it.
*This 1360 uboot is same as BREED uboot. I've attached the photo. can u also upload a photo for its interface(gui)?.
Sorry to be pain in the a**. I'm not a pro on this openwrt. I hope you can guide. Or do you have a video that can help me with the process or flow of your instructions. That would be great.
Hi @deathrob,
I have not flashed the uboot image yet and can't really give much advice than just upload a openwrt (factory not sysupgrade image), but take this with a grain of salt and do so at your risk (I am not responsible if you brick your router.)
Credit to @kar200 for figuring this out and telling me. I didn't figure this out on my own.
As for this, I definitely can help. First of all, look up WinSCP and download and install it on your computer, when asks for a login you are 1st going to change the protocol to SCP (IMPORTANT) and then put in the ip address (default is 192.168.1.1) in the host name field, and for the username type "root" and as for the password by default there isn't one, but if you set on in LuCI, input that password. It will take a while to log in, you're going to navigate to /etc/config/ and double click the wireless file. Go add option
macaddr 'E6:AD:E0:E8:11:CE'
under the default radio 0 or 1 (but not both) section, save the file and close the file and open it again to ensure that it was saved properly. Reboot the router (or restart the wifi radios from LuCI) and you should be able to have both bands with the same SSID with no issues.

@throwaway beat me to it. It is just an extra line in the "/etc/config/wireless" files. Don't worry if you mess it up you can just delete the whole file and reboot and a new one will be created with the default values.
All the RC's have luci in them. All the snapshots do not. You can update to the snapshot yes but then you will have to use ssh "through putty if you are using windows" and then run the following command
opkg update && opkg install luci
and Luci will be installed. Don't forget the router will need an internet connection before you do so. Normally if you do an upgrade with keeping the config it will keep the config even for packages you have not installed yet and therefore your internet connection should be availble
Not at all. Breed is a separate beast which has very cool features like the web interface you have attached. It is not liked though in the openwrt comminity due to the fact @hackpascal does not share the source code. This is only the normal Dlink boot loader for the DIR-1360 which is the same device like the DIR-853-A3. The difference is that the ET device does not have the emergency recovery but the DIR-1360 does.
You keep the reset button pressed in and a web server starts. You then set manual IP address (192.168.0.101) and open a browser and upload the DIR-853 stock image and it will come back to life. I had some issues trying it but it worked using curl.
Shouldn't the stock image be decrypted?
Quick Question @kar200, what does the u-boot do though? As I understand it, instead of the reset button resetting OpenWrt, it opens the D-LINK emergency room to upload any image incase you softbrick your router (?)

Uboot is the bootloader used in the D-Link devices (and more than half the other embedded devices worldwide). The stock ET does have uboot as well as the emergency option except you cannot activate it with the reset button (only through the console with a TTL device).
If there is an issue with uboot (which reside at the start of the flash drive) the router is gone an not much can restore it (except removing the flash device and reprogram it externally and solder it back in which is not trivial).
I didn't do a lot of testing but yes the image I uploaded was decrypted. There was a message thogugh in the console when I was doing it saying (firmware is unencrypted). I think it might accept encrypted images as well but I have not tried that.
@kar200 could you please reupload the stock decrypted firmware for ET dir853-A3 to go back to factory from padavan/openwrt

Hi @spamhater
Here is the link (with a short text file on how to upgrade using telnet).
Hey, Thanks for the file
I am on openwrt and ran the command and got this

In opewnrt the MTD partition is called "firmware"
So you just replace Kernel by "firmware".
Can somebody provide me [openwrt-21.02.0-rc3-ramips-mt7621-dlink_dir-853-a3-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin, uboot.bin and and luci please.

Hi @saifkhan9187,
Are you already on openwrt? Luci is already included in the RC version.

Hi @kar200. I have only image is of Rc2. Not rc3.. Plus currently i am using padavan from past 2 weeks. Its going superb and i love it. Now just wanted to try openwrt also. Before this with rc2, the wifi signals were so weak so reverted back to padavan.
So if i want to use master repo to flash, is the rc3 or what? Just need some info.
Bundle of thanks for your overall time abd support to keep this device alive....
