Disconnections every 10-15 min – can't cure ordinarily

Every 10-15 minutes my fancy GL.iNet Flint 2 drops internet connection and restores it only after manual restarting LAN interface (br-lan) or full reboot. The system was configured a few months ago and worked stable until yesterday, when it breaks on its own.

Firmware update from 23.05.3 to 23.05.5 did not help, as well as factory reset. Another strange thing: once connection drops, the web GUI remains accessible only from my phone via WiFi, but cannot be reached from PC via Ethernet.

Any help is appreciated.

looks like an issue with your upstream device, whatever it is.

Do you mean the problem is not with the router itself, but with the device prior to it (e.g. ISP equipment)? Please expand your answer more.

Somewhat reassuring consideration. But then the question: why is it behaving so strangely? I mean, obvious problems with connected devices and LAN interface instead of WAN? Any clues?

if the issue's your ISP's device, how would we know ?

could be related to your config, another thing we don't know anything about.

in pppoe definition section of /etc/config/network

Can you check temperature of the device like by hand, it can run only with all vents open. Though still there is no solution for mtk_soc_eth timeouts, which certainly appear starving air flow, but sometimes in cold conditions, and never on some other devices.

The very hackish way to run around issue - create br-wan with wan as a member, and permitting empty bridge, then use that bridge as a pppoe physical device. pppoe will not see interface flopping and will happily work albeit with small stumbling at times.

Regarding the overheating, I am aware of that and have already checked by hand (almost cold), although I still haven't found any utility to properly monitor temperature from LuCi.
But this model is known for its huge heatsink and also hangs freely on the wall in my case, so overheating seems unlikely. And doesn't that contradict the assumption about upstream device?

root cause is mtk_soc_eth network card driver resetting and as a consequence shutting down pppoe connection. logs show legitimate ppp connection shutdown right after driver glitch.
It is long running problem, check github issues mentioning mtk_soc_eth, for some enabling firewall offloads helped, for others made it worse etc.

I had a similar thing happen to me, be it on a Raspberry Pi 5.. It suddenly started dropping every so often, with a very short uptime.. I did some googling and found that changing the LCP settings under Advanced on the WAN cured the problem..

I think I set mine to 10/10 (from memory) and it did indeed cure the problem for me..

The router-side issue is confirmed: since I have a valid contracts with two different wired ISPs (the second one works via DHCP, not PPPoE), I just swapped wires and restored my old configuration I was using with second ISP three month ago. And disconnections are still here!

I wish I had chosen Qualcomm...

I wish I could not bother you more, but I would not ask such a question without some prior (and unsuccessful) self search. So, if you know where to look, then please give me direction.

And I think I finally managed to interpret your instruction in empirical way. The steps look like this:

  1. Go to Network > Interfaces > Devices and add device configuration with the following parameters:
  • Device type: Bridge device
  • Bridge ports: eth1
  • Bring up empty bridge: true
  1. Go back to Network > Interfaces and edit PPPoE WAN interface (WAN6 too) by switching Device to the bridge created in the previous step.

Not sure if it's done right, but it didn't help, and the disconnects continue (!).
