DIR-2660 A1 limited storage available

Hi,

I recently bought a D-Link DIR-2660 router, and installed OpenWrt 22.03.3. using the factory .bin (dlink_dir-2660-a1-squashfs-factory.bin).
I specifically bought this router, because it has 128MB flash. (Or at least that is what the manufacturer claims.) So I could play around with software.
However OpenWrt says only 22.6MB free.

I had routers in the past (D-Link DIR-825; D-Link DIR-835) with OpenWrt and those were limited as well, but the DIR-835 had only 16MB flash. So I thought ok, that is probably how it is.

So I'm curious. Is this normal? What is taking more than 100MB?
If the old 16MB router was enough with some spare space, then why is the 100MB needed with this router?

Thank you very much for the answer. Much appreciated. I think the ~22MB should be more than enough for me. I was just wondering why it isn't more. If in the future I need the space, I'll take you on your offer.

Again, thank you very much for the information.
