Dhcp lease of 1 hour renewed every 30 minutes

My router gets a lease from my ISP

Sat May 4 12:22:31 2024 daemon.notice netifd: wan (20922): udhcpc: lease of xx.xx.199.46 obtained from xx.xx.255.180, lease time 3602

Yet every 30 minutes I see

Sat May 4 12:52:32 2024 daemon.notice netifd: wan (20922): udhcpc: sending renew to server xx.xx.255.180
Sat May 4 12:52:32 2024 daemon.notice netifd: wan (20922): udhcpc: lease of xx.xx.199.46 obtained from xx.xx.255.180, lease time 3602

checking the lease time

root@shadow:~# ifstatus wan | jsonfilter -e @.data.leasetime
3602
root@shadow:~#

Not a big deal just curious

That is by design.

DHCP clients will request a renewal of the lease at 50% of the lease time. If it is unsuccessful, it will request again at 87.5%, and then at 100% (expiration).
