dBm country code question (CH)

Dear all,

For channels 36 - 64 (5150 - 5350 MHz) for CH it is allowed to use 23 dBm (200 mW) for indoor use according to this link (p9):

However, in openwrt I can set 23 dBm for channels 36-48, but only 20 dBm for channels 52-64.
I found this link for openwrt which is different to the link from the CH governmental standards.

Did I miss something or can I switch to another country to be able to set 23 dBm but still being within country standards (I live in) ?

Thanks in advance ! and Cheers, Blinton

Rather interesting, also UK adds some freedoms to ETSI guaranteed minimums
Either way you should communicate here:
https://wireless.docs.kernel.org/en/latest/en/developers/regulatory/wireless-regdb.html#sending-updates-to-the-regulatory-database

Indoor/outdoor is determined by 3rd letter of country code
CH - indoor or outdoor
CHI - indoor
CHO - outdoor
XXX - special value where channel map in supposedly international waters/airspace is given by AP

If you really have outdoor (weatherproof) AP you must set CC3 to O and get the ETSI base 20dBm.

Probably worth mailing/calling them whether extra power is intended.

These channels (or specifically the frequency range 5250-5350 MHz) only allow the highest transmit power if TPC (Transmit Power Control) is used. Otherwise it has to be reduced by 3 dB (see section 6.1 of the document you linked).

As far as I know, TPC is not implemented, so wireless-regdb has to choose the second option.

So the answer to that is no.

Also, be aware that the selected country code is included in the beacons sent by the access point.
