D-Link H/W support question

Been lurking here for a long time, decided to join to ask my question. I've been perusing the MediaTek git and was wondering if I were to build a current tree, would it support my device?

https://wikidevi.com/wiki/D-Link_DIR-882_rev_A1

Looked at this git:

https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=history;f=target/linux/mediatek/Makefile;h=fb294ad8fb7e1cf2b1d57aef70b9745fdd0dc2cb;hb=e39847ea2f70bf8880a4533b22a0eed110ffea98

Where it mentions support was added for MT7623 - The unit I have apparently is a MT7621AT (cross-referenced to DD-WRT) - Also didn't know that MediaTek bought Ralink so I'm assuming this device may qualify as a result.

Not sure if it's supported - picked up one for free, haven't even taken it out of the box yet as I couldn't find any direct-link downloads for firmware. Currently running a TP-LINK WDR4300 on LEDE and it works fine but newer hardware never hurts

I tried to research as best as possible before posting but I'm still not 100% sure.

https://openwrt.org/supported_devices is a good place to start. Just because the chips are the same, doesn't mean that the way that they are "wired up" is the same as well. That said, if the combination of chips is supported in another device, then it is likely "easy" to port OpenWRT to your device (though hardly guaranteed).

https://openwrt.org/toh/start?dataflt[Brand*~]=d-link&dataflt[Model*~]=882 doesn't suggest that it is supported yet

A quick search of the forum here finds Odds of timely D-Link DIR-882 or 878 support in 2018?

Thanks Jeff,

I did read the thread you linked but didn't seem too clear (to me) whether it'd be supported or not. Would it be best to PM the MT maintainer and ask him perhaps?

from a month ago strongly suggests that the answer right now is "no". git log on master doesn't show anything related to "882". Working with a dev (or doing it yourself) would be the fastest way to get progress. You can always try PM, but realize that they're unpaid people that do this "for fun".
