I just installed openwrt 18.06.1 on an D-Link dir-645 device. LUCI and ssh is working, BUT I CANNOT DO ANY CHANGES. It looks a bit like described in https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/350763/openwrt-fails-saving-changes
Perhaps I'm a victim to 'Provided Image too big to save overlay'?
What could I do?

Impossible, your device is 8 MB flash per the wiki.
Flash again (using the sysupgrade). Yes, perhaps very odd, but it has helped on some devices.
Just adding for others... I just flashed x2 DIR-645 with no issues. A great cheap gigabit ethernet only router.
I did attempt a version of v22 rc4 or rc5 from v19 & it failed to boot
so I went back to v21
didn't get to try again since tho
