Cudy WR1200 - how to get firmware?

Hello everybody! :slightly_smiling_face: Would like to ask you about Cudy router compability: I have Cudy WR1200 - is it possible to get firmware from WR1300 model? I mean: [OpenWrt Wiki] Cudy WR1300 Thank you.

No. It is not safe to use firmware that is designed for a different model unless you know for sure that the two models are actually identical at the hardware design level. Each model requires a bespoke firmware image. If you successfully flash firmware from a different model, there is a high probability that you will permanently brick your router.

There is nothing that indicates that the WR1200 and WR1300 are identical.

1200 - mt7628 {ancient)
1300 - mt7621
cpu and soc are completely different.
8/64 device likely will be desupported in next release anyway

Ok, thanks. Looks like I need to buy a new router.

Just one more question - Is it possible to build a virtual machine (Ubuntu as an example), configure it as a xray client and make it a gateway for the LAN?

Probably, but it's a question for xray, not us.
