Cudy M1300 3.0 / EU V3.0 — is it compatible with M1300 v2 OpenWrt support?

I have a Cudy M1300 3.0 / EU V3.0 unit.

I am surprised this revision is not listed yet, because on the box/spec sheet it looks very similar to M1300 v2.

Label info:

  • Model: Cudy M1300
  • Version: EU V3.0 / M1300(1-Pack)_EU V3.0
  • MAC: D4:0D:::**
  • SN: M1300260******

Has anyone confirmed whether this revision uses the same hardware/target as M1300 v2, or does it need a separate device entry?

If needed, I can share PCB photos, serial logs, or chip info.

The external appearance of the device does not tell the full story. The internals could be considerably different. Think of it like a car that is offered as gasoline or electric power options in the same car body.... totally different, yet visually the same.

These don't provide any information about what's inside.

Probably not...

All of the above. Then you can compare those to the V2 version to see if the major components are the same. Even if they are, it's possible there are other differences, but at least that suggests that support might not be difficult.

Sometimes the version number is bumped because of very minor changes to the system (for example maybe a different power supply circuit), and other times the version number change can be extremely significant like an entirely different SoC but packaged in the same physical enclosure and sporting the same user-level specifications.

And even in (rare) cases where the hardware would actually be 100% identical, things like the OEM partitioning often are different between h/w revisions, which would imply a guaranteed (hard'ish) brick.

Cases are often reduced between vastly different models, the molds for injection molding are expensive, so if a vendor can avoid changing them between devices, they will. The bigger quantities you get out of them, the cheaper.

You could always ask Cudy, they're surprisingly good at replying to emails.

I can't seem to open the top shelf without breaking these.

This is the link to their router.

What do I ask them?

Can they give me PCB internals?

Ask about hw differences between v2 and EU3.0.

One can see the UART port in the lower left corner of the PCB, in your photo.

There is obviously a risk of breaking the plastic, but obviously this isn't going to be sufficient... you need to be able to read the writing on all of the chips (including the one under the heatsink) and/or gain access to the serial port... so disassembly is required (unless Cudy does come back with answers about the differences in the hardware).

I have e-mailed them for details so if they reply.

I don't want to risk it right away since it's a new router I bought a few days ago.

I uploaded a few pictures here that I could get without opening the router.

really?

I looked at the firmware:

For v2 and v3 they list the same firmware file, but for v3 they only list the latest version.

So IMO the partition layout and device tree should be exactly the same and the, but they may use a different flash chip or a different ram chip.

I bought it for 30 $ . Couldn't get anything more in my budget.

Hey man.
Cudy replied to me.

So is V2 enough is what they are saying?

Maybe add v3 to the supported list next to V2 .

At least based on the info from Cudy, it sounds like the models must have differences that are not related to things that are relevant to the firmware.

With that in mind, try installing openwrt and see what happens.

Similar mail from a different account. And the same answer.

So , can you give me the link to properly flash it?
Because on the device list page the flasher it downloads is intramfs but a guide somewhere says do not flash intramfs and flash something else which I can't find the link to.

So uh which guide should I follow and which file to flash.
Also how do I give you guys the logs of the result of flashing to see if there was any errors or not.

Also the recovery guide in case I need it for this router.

Instructions are in the git commit [edit - removed link since it was incorrect]

Based on the response from Cudy, it should be fine. But keep in mind that if the information they provided is incorrect, your router could become a brick.

You have the wrong commit.

I found this one

My problem is it says loading intramfs is impossible.
But in the downloads only the intramfs file and sysupgrade file exists .

Good catch on the git commit mistake. Sorry about that one.

I can't speak to the specifics of installing on this device -- I don't have one. Maybe someone else can chime in about that.
