Compatibility Archer VR900

Hi

I have a TP-Link Archer VR900 router, and wondered if there is a compatible version that would work with this router. I can see several Archer VR routers, but the VR900 is not listed as one of them

Thanks

Gareth

https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tp-link_archer_vr900v_1.0 is very skeletal and does not indicate that OpenWrt will run on the device.

Given that it's Broadcom-based for wireless and Broadcom's typical policy on open-source support, there may be significant limitations on what ever could be done with open-source drivers and firmware,

vr900 != vr900v, see https://wikidevi.com/wiki/TP-LINK_Archer_VR900v_(v1.0)

Hi

Its actually an Archer VR900 v2, which looks totally different externally to the v1. Does that make much of a difference?

thanks

Gareth

Given that TP-Link has a long history of wildly different hardware in the same box with the same model number, Iā€™d say that your situation is that it is unlikely that that hardware is the same.

THanks Jeff

I'm very new to this, but looks like the specifications of the Broadcom chipset are different between the two.

Does anyone know if I can install on an Archer VR900 v2? Any advice?

Thanks

Gareth

Unlike industry-standard PCs, pretty much each firmware needs to be hand-customized to the chips, how they are wired together on the board, and how the manufacturer chooses to use the flash memory.

The first step in adding a device would be to know if it even can be supported. If you have some specs or a boot log / dmesg output, posting it here would likely get you at least a "quick read" on the possibility.

A very casual look at the OEM firmware confirms BCM63xx, with SPI-NAND (which is difficult already) - ADSL/ VDSL modem won't have any support, WLAN support is pretty unlikely.
