After lots of (re)searching I've come to the conclusion that while there is a package "collectd-mod-smart" this isn't supported by luci_statistics.
Is there any HowTo I just didn't find?
Adding the Plugin to
/etc/collectd.conf
get's it loaded by collectd but there aren't any graphs plotted and restarting luci_statistics deletes the entries in the .conf (which is normal).

I had a similar problem a while back. This is the solution? @hnyman provided then:

Specifically:
collectd-mod-ntpd seems to be built quite ok. But no LuCI support for it has ever been created. Collectd has tons of plugins, but support for LuCI statistics has been built only for some.
It should be rather easy to create LuCI support also for the normal ntpd by replicating / modifying this commit to suit the collectd ntpd plugin needs
