I have installed OpenWrt 23.05.2 r23630-842932a63d on a Netgear WAX202 access point. I wanted to install tcpdump, but it seems not to be available.
I did opkg update already. opkg list doesn't show tcpdump and opkg install cannot find it.
try again now it should appear
in case this is the link:
or create your own custom firmware by adding the packages you want:
https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org/?version=23.05.2&target=ramips%2Fmt7621&id=netgear_wax202
I get errors when trying to update:
root@OpenWrt:~# opkg update
Downloading https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.2/targets/ramips/mt7621/packages/Packages.gz
Failed to send request: Operation not permitted
*** Failed to download the package list from https://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/23.05.2/targets/ramips/mt7621/packages/Packages.gz
I get 6 such errors.
I haven't yet IPv6 configured but IPv4 works. Is v6 necessary to access the server?
Oops, sorry. I now see DNS isn't working.
OK, I will fix that and try again.
test 1:
traceroute downloads.openwrt.org
test 2:
at the end of the opkg update command there should be an error code what is it (example wget returned 4)
you see:
After fixing the DNS forward server (to my own DNS server in the LAN), so the device can resolve downloads.openwrt.org, I could opkg update and opkg install tcpdump.
Thanks and sorry for the avoidable noise.
