Clean install 24.10 + 23.05.5 config files

I'd like to clean install 24.10 on a new SD card, and then use the restore config function using the backup config files from my 23.05.5 SD card.

Is this possible? ... or should I clean install 23.05.5 on the new SD card, restore the 23.05.5 backup config and finally then perform the 24.10 upgrade. Thx!

What is your device? Usually it will be fine, but this also depends on your device.

For example if it was just changed from swconfig to DSA (they switched most targets years ago but some they just changed over), or you are using old iptables config and new targets use nftabels you can have issues and will want to do a new config. If unsure just do a new config.

You can always SSH in and issue firstboot to reset the config so you shouldn't get yourself into much trouble.

Note the devs mostly covered this in the announcement:

Hey thanks for the reply. It's an R4S 1gb.

That device didn't make those changes so your 23.x config should be safe to sysupgrade to 24.x.

You should see a nice performance jump since they switched the rockchip kernel to disable kernel preemption. Also enable software flow offloading and packet steering on that device for best performance.

Oh awesome thx again
