Cheap easy-to-flash WiFi 6 AX Router

AFAIK only (still) sold in US, and we've already established it's not where OP is.

Unfortunately, 16mb flash, 128 ram could be a limitation for many

You're correct about absolute cost. However, I think it's reasonable to assume that the relative costs are quite similar since these devices would all be manufactured in China anyway. And that's why I use the AliExpress price as the baseline.

They're all more expensive than the ASUS RT-AX53U, which is at the far end of my budget range.

Actually you're doubly correct. My bad. It appears none of the Taiwanese models are available in AliExpress. So we can't do a price comparison based on the AliExpress price. Products on Amazon on the other hand are overpriced. This is beginning to feel like a really stupid question.

Anyway, before I fade away from this question: here's what I've learned:

Cheapest for me: TP-Link AX23. Main problems are low flash and RAM and absence of USB port. Another issue is TP-Link's tendency to release incompatible versions with the same model name.

Promising: GL.inet B3000. Not yet officially supported. But there appears to be an active effort toward that. Main problem is absence of USB port. About the same price as the TP-Link AX23

Default choice for now: Asus AX53U. Cheapest one (based on my main requirement for an easy to flash router) with a USB port. My main issue is the horrible design.

If that is your criteria for buying a Wi-Fi router easily flashable with OpenWRT, then you are looking for the wrong router. Just buy a cheap top-of-the-line brand router and don't flash OpenWrt.

Not every good router is on Wikipedia, and some might not be on the OpenWrt Wiki yet because support is WIP.

Router prices vary from region to region. A top-of-the-line spec router might be 40 euros in Europe but 150 USD on Aliexpress. So don't make the false assumption that everything is cheap on Aliexpress.

You might get a DL-WRX36 as low as 30USD from USA but the same might be sold for 200Euro in Italy.

what is your location/region?

I got my TP Link AX23 for about 30USD in india.

Very easy to flash and works very well.

The Redmi AX3000T can be flashed easily using the XMIR patcher. Definitely worth considering.

only if you want to play the Xiaomi soft brick lottery, the AN8855 was just recently added.
who knows which component they'll replace next.

Xiaomi sucks. Oh this a1 variant flash like this, oh b1 variant do this and run some shady python scripts. C1 variant not supported. D1, that is China only.
