Cannot ping my public IP with router used as PPPoE bridge

I have the following hardware setup:

Internet -> FritzBox7530 -> Netgear AC2600 ->LAN

The FritzBox7530 has stock firmware and is configured as a PPPoE bridge. The Netgear AC2600 has OpenWRT v24.10.3. I am also running OpenVPN on this device. Internet access from LAN devices is no problem.

My ISP gives me a static IP, which matches I can see on the LuCI home screen:

And also in Network->Interfaces:

But I cannot ping this IP from outside my network (e.g. from a phone on 5G).

I want to eventually set up a server here and I was trying this as a first step. I am unsure what to check or even if this is a problem with the OpenWRT router and not the bridge.

That depends on your provider, by default OpenWrt responds to pings on WAn interface.

I have checked, and my ISP (Zen Internet in the UK) doesn't block ping, so it seems like it's either an issue with the PPPoE bridge or the OpenWRT router.

Burden of proof is on you. like tcpdump.

You have mixed up wan and wan6 and that wan66 is not in wan firewall zone.

id suggest to reset and re-enter ppp parameters in WAN interface and once with ip4 address bolt on the ip6 via wan6

Sorry I'm just coming back to this after I got diverted away from it.

I got ping working by setting up my WAN and WAN6 interfaces again, thanks.

I'm not sure what you meant by using tcpdump exactly - I tried running tcpdump icmp -i eth0 on the router, but saw no traffic with my phone successfully pinging the router from the internet. Out of curiosity, what was the command(s) you intended I should run?

Intrface is pppoe-lan for tcpdump.

Did you mean pppoe-wan? If so yes I can see the pings there, thanks!
