Hi. Ok this is really bugging me I've tried two different VPN providers that "Supposedly" support OpenWrt. I have spent hours going through .ovpn file's in the vpn editor section.
All i want to know is if in your own personal experience of any good providers?
Edit: preferably a provider that has a guide on how to configure it.
This forum isn't really setup as a place for VPN provider reviews, although some people may be willing to share opinions.
The important thing here is that OpenWrt is capable of using many VPN protocols -- Wireguard is the most highly recommended option, but OpenVPN is also somewhat common. Any VPN providers that can work with these protocols will work with your OpenWrt router.
Personally, I don't use a VPN solution at home but FWIW, I've used Proton's free solution for WG only for my guest network with PBR and it just idles along until it's needed for this very limited use. If you are going to use a VPN for regular use, you'll gain signifantly in speed and other options by paying for the service.
Just putting this it out as a no cost option until you can get your head around the technology behind VPN/WG OpenWrt configuration on your device for your use case.
You need the WireGuard Client setup guide, I even use Proton Free as an example.
Better download it as Github only shows the first 5 pages
I use Mullvad which is excellent but they are stopping support for OpenVPN, reason for me to look for another VPN provider as I want to have OpenVPN as backup
tailscale. Which is based on wireguard. Or org wireguard, but then you need a private "relay" server with public IP, when setting up your own vpn network.
