Since I see that 1.26.2 has been committed to trunk I figured it was now or never to resolve this issue. So I pulled the latest, did a diffconfig, deleted my old config and recreated from default with the help of the diffconfig.
Built and running with no issues -- no idea what the hassle was before but I see no issues with the committed patches.
