Building issues. A bit help would be appreciated

Hello everoyne,

I'm trying to build OpenWrt for my Router (Zyxel Armor Z2 aka NGB-6817 aka IPQ806x).

I have already created several builds running flawlessly on this Box.

Now I'm trying to customize my build and (of course) I'm struggling a bit and need help. :slight_smile:

For the moment I don't want to patch any source files directly. So I have choosen the way putting the modifyed files into ~/openwrt/files directory, as suggested in the tutorial. But they got overwritten or not recognized. They are not there after flashing. So I've missed something!?

Second question is: How do I remove Adblock and Samba? I don't want these packages. But they are depending on to many things to track this down quick. My guess is they are mandatory?

3rd question: Is it possible to stick with one dhcp/dns solution? Or why is it splitted into dnsmasq for ipv4 and odhcp for ipv6? I have found out that the splitting in my config is enforced due to selecting: "Target Profile/Multiple Devices" in connection with "Target Devices/Use a per-device root filesystem". Just to get the Advanced Reboot Button working. :confused:

In my experience, the build system doesn't allow two sources to install content to the same location in the file system. This includes package-package conflicts, such as installing less from a package without removing it from the busybox configuration.

make menuconfig and remove them there. Then again, they aren't in the "default" configuration.

You can see the dependencies and reverse dependencies in menuconfig by using the ? key, as I recall.

The requirements and functionality for IPv4 DHCP and IPv6 node management are "completely different". DNS is a little bit of a red herring here, as it happens to be implemented by dnsmasq in the default configuration.

In case you want to include some custom configuration files, the correct place to put them is:

<buildroot dir>/files/

For example, let's say that you want an image with a custom /etc/config/firewall or a custom etc/sysctl.conf, then create this files as:

<buildroot dir>/files/etc/config/firewall
<buildroot dir>/files/etc/sysctl.conf

E.g. if your is ~/source and you want some files to be copied into firmware image's /etc/config directory, the correct place to put them is ~/source/files/etc/config.

So I'm a bit confused, why this is not working. ... So it's better to edit files directly. :confused: I don't like this because I don't know anything about luci and its connection to the system.

For the Adblock/Samba thing ... Maybe I'm doing things wrong. In short what I'm doing:

After menuconfig there is no active reference in .config to Adblock or Samba. But in every Build Adblock and Samba is included. That's why I'm wondering/asking. So there must a reference for them. I'm a bit helpless. I would say that in my .config is nothing triggering adblock or samba.

Invoke "make defconfig oldconfig" before "make menuconfig".

If you still can't make it work then please show all the exact commands you use for every step.

Thank you very much guys for great helping. :slight_smile: After a while I found the error.
As I had already a build from the latest trunk on the box I was all the time using System Upgrade option. After I decided to flash kernel and rootfs to both "systems" (p4/5 AND p7/8) over ssh the changes got applied in the right way. No Adblock and no Samba anymore. I don't know where I did the mistake or the error was.
