Build for Netgear R7800

Reboots when using LuCI might point toward something in the authentication components, rpcd etc. that time care for the ACL stuff, or uhttpd But my build contains nothing special regarding them. And if there would be a generic bug in those, there would likely be more bug reports about it (especially strange is 19.07.x).

Thanks for the replies I will try to do some more testing later this afternoon.

It must be a fault with my device or issue with my browsers or extensions (Vivaldi, but I also tested with chrome on my PC and phone) As there are no other reports except https://forum.openwrt.org/t/build-for-netgear-r7800/316/2557

I would love to find out why but may have to admit defeat and stick with the standard build and add the packages I need.

So far I haven't installed the SSL package for LuCI on the standard build. Do you think this could be the cause of any of my issues?

Hard to say. It might be SSL, but in that case there would surely be more reports.

Seems a bit weird that the router reboots tho', what would really cause the linux kernel to do that just by simply going to a webpage that's hosted on the router?

I think I have the same problem.
It is not that the router reboots, but LuCI isn't loading correctly and has issues, CLI seems to work.
But I prefer LuCI.

I also have SSL package installed, to create a VPN Server.

Restored the backup created before the sysupgrade to r14533.
OpenVPN seems to be missing.
Still got some LuCI issues so did a sysupgrade back to previous version: r14023

Everything seems to work normal again, without OpenVPN. Will now try to upgrade to r14533.

Upgrade to version R14533 gives some issues.

I compared this with the log when using the standard build of 19.07.4 and the only thing that jumps out is the I/O errors on mtdblock1. These are not in the kernel log with standard build. But I believe this have been addressed before and are considered normal.

I sometimes get these messages when using LuCI and one of the crashes I have been experiencing happens. I guess because the ajax request did not get a response before it was timed out. A symptom rather than a cause for me at least

If you look at the output again you will see, there are too pci scans, you compared first scan from mine with second scan from your. I see two differences your ubi is larger than mine, it is possible, that the part size changed at some point and my ubifs is so old that it was created before that change. I also see some chaoskey driver load in your output, that module is not included in my build.

Is there anything special attached to your unit e.g. usb device? Does it crash at logon or at certain pages.

I'm a bit confused now, but @KONG, you do realize you're writing in @hnyman's R7800 build thread?
If you and @iamtomb are talking about your build, i suggest you make a new thread about it.

I did wonder why @KONG was "saying my builds".

To be clear I am testing @hnyman's builds

LOL. Sorry I thought you replied to me after I posted the message regarding stable, master and so on:-)

Then it's all good. If it crashes on hnyman build, then maybe he needs to clean his build dir. Official builds are created with buildbot which always starts from a clean tree. Thus they don't run into problems like "not linking against updated libs", which can cause this.

Nope.
I always start from a clean build tree. Have done so the 10 years that I have been publishing community builds here... (For wndr3700 and now for R7800).

The latest release i've applied appears to have trashed my ddns config. when I go in to try and fix it "DDNS Service Provider" drop down only gives me the option of "-- custom --" where I would expect to see options for providers like previously. I wonder if the package has got broken?

It has. See the DDNS discussions in the packages & LuCI bug trackers.
E.g.

and
https://lists.openwrt.org/pipermail/openwrt-devel/2020-September/031507.html

(Nothing to do specifically with my build.)

Thanks for the prompt response

master-r14627-d6a9a92e32-20201003
There have been recent fixes to the DDNS package, both the package itself and the LuCI side.
Hopefully those fixes do fix your issues.

(I do not use DDNS myself, so no personal experience)

I happened to build r14627-d6a9a92e32 (packages.git^5164697) for my nbg6817 a couple of hours ago and the ddns issues are indeed fixed there (tested with he.net and no-ip.com).
