Block illegal streaming

Just stop blocking stuff for people and leave them to do what ever they want. Just an install of adblock with the stok lists will do. The cops are never going to come after you and you will have a record of who ever was staying at the flat at the time the dodgy sites were accessed.

That is my point - his potential customers.
I have no problem with anyone looking for a business opportunity. I do have a problem with lack of transparency, intended or not.
Making unfounded statements about the legal situation in any particular region does not help.

This could be an academic exercise, but this is not the first time he has asked similar questions:
School network, advice needed and that was some time ago, so I think not.

In the EU it is particularly a problem as any public Internet provision must mitigate the conflicting issues of:

  1. Requirement to record login information of clients that have accepted ToS
  2. Requirement NOT to record login information for privacy reasons

The conflict is actually fairly simple to resolve, but that is a subject for discussion elsewhere.

"They'll never catch me" attitude may well work - until it all goes wrong. The point is, unless you take the correct steps to legally protect yourself, when it does go wrong, you are stuffed.
The same principle of protecting yourself as a public access provider applies in just about all regions.

The portal seems the way forward. Is that possible to setup on an OpenWrt router?

if it is illegal - 'prohibited by law' - then blocking is not the right course of action is it.

so what is illegal about what's going on, or is it better termed undesirable .

And a non technical opinion: You'll just be doing yourself a disservice. Once tenants realize internet is "restricted", expect bad reviews/feedback, support issues related to why site xyz is not working etc.. and those who are able to, will use a vpn anyway. None of them will be repeat customers.
You're better off leaving the internet unrestricted and rotating the wifi password each time a new tenant moves in.

Been watching this thread - and it's a hard problem to solve, esp as a host providing network coverage...

Folks have touched on the legal/liability issues around providing services to sub-lets, short-term rentals and the like - and this is a minefield, in my honest opinion..

Some say host a captive portal with T&C's - and this isn't really an answer, as even items like Safe Portal acts don't really provide much cover...

It's one thing for streams and pirate activities - most LE folks don't care unless one gets a complaint...

If you're hosting a short term rental - and the guest/tenant downloads CSAM - well, that's a very big problem, as that 's on their radar - and if you're paying the bill on the wifi for that sub-let, well, now, that's your problem, and one of those where one has to unfortunately prove oneself innocent...

In a perfect world - the service, e.g. AirBNB or others - they could drop in a WiFi AP that is backhauled to their platform (or sub it out like many hotels).

Looking at things at what some have mentioned - e.g. AdBlock and other items - this is actually not a good things - because logs, and the intent to block content - so if you're not doing the serious eye's on, then, there's a county level DA that would like to meet you...

This is perhaps a business model/idea - there are companies that do this kind of thing already, mostly focused on the common space items like hotels and coffee shops (and others)...
