Best m2 wifi card for openwrt

You didn't understand the question.

Actually, it is quite relevant. Unless you have excellent cooling that is properly thermally coupled to the heat syncs, your card will overheat.

External APs are the way to go

Listen to the experts here.... you'll be glad you did.

Actually im investigating for 2 days. And from all threads on reedit or here or on 3rd party websites i got confused. Several models appears as suggestion so i decide to ask here.

You're now unconfused, simply put, don't do it.

I'm sure it's fine as a wired router, but the $10 wifi card addon was a bad decision, if you had to pay for it.

My goal was to bridge ont and put all in one mini center for home with firewall and wifi so 300$ was a pretty ok price for that. But with a additional wifi i just can buy a good wifi router for 300$. Anyway i have ac86u but i wanted all in one solution to spare space cables and all stuffs

Depends on where you live, I guess...

If you need the processing power of an intel 8260u, not really.

If not, you'll save $150-$200.

Im now thinking that i drop money in dust. Cpu in ac86u can easy perform all tasks for home usage. He even work at caffee where 30 40 people connect and work ok.

Did you ask for these recommendations on this forum before spending way too much on a router?

Actually no because i didnt considering that in 21 century wifi card is selled and yet not usable.

Well, they are usable in sta (client) mode. But not all cards work in AP mode.

Had you come here before spending money on your router, we would have probably saved you money and time.

It isn’t our fault that you bought hardware that is not well suited for your goals. But we do speak with knowledge and experience about what will perform best.

You didn't consider another aspected either, namely that even if that ax210 card could be used in AP mode on 5 GHz, it wouldn't be able to handle 2.4+5 GHz concurrently - and that will be a problem with most potential alternatives as well. Nor did you check the specs of your PC, it only has one M.2 slot for a WLAN card (the other would be mSATA). Voltage and current draw, as well as the resulting heat generation would be easier to miss, but they are even more relevant - even if you don't believe so; this would quite literally go up in smoke.

...and there are 2-4 other substantive problems, if you were serious with this route, on that hardware (in particular).

I didnt say its anyone fault. I just didnt expect this. That some cheap router perform better than serious equipment.

And usb solution?

No, I gave you four quite capable and cheap alternatives to extend your network with WLAN functionality.

guess the detail was missed previously, but opnsense agrees with what's been said here https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/wireless.html

That's one of them, by far the hardest one of the bunch to flash (so do your investigation if you can handle the procedure before buying), but the most capable one; the others have lower specs, but are much easier to flash.

...but there are many other options as well.

I see and if i put it in lan why flash. I can keep orginal firmware then. Also i have asus ac86u wich is one of the best i had by range and speed so i dont need to buy this one. But yet all that then i can do it whitout this mini pc. Now i must figuring out where to make it usable to justify at least part of $ spended
