banIP support thread

I don't think there is an option for log_target and log_file. Please check the README.

You are correct. My fault on thinking that Google Gemini is a reliable source.
I checked on README and I didn't find any information about how to write the logs in an external file.

When I run the "dmesg" I can see many entries from banip there. I'm worried that too many entries will result in a massive log file to my router.

There is no way to write this log in an external file?

'ban_basedir', 'ban_reportdir', 'ban_backupdir' and 'ban_errordir' are already set to be saved in an external drive.

By the way, my firewall rule is set to drop inputs on WAN.

Is it redudant to use banIP?

I like my view...Thanks again to @dibdot

Standard logging in OpenWrt is in RAM, a ringbuffer (default 128 KB).

Just a personal opinion about the text in the boxes.

Reading the text "Please choose" I feel it like a prompting that something should be chosen from the box and it cannot remain empty (optional).
Otherwise the text description below each box is really explanatory. Maybe it would be a bit clearer if it was "Please choose (optional)".

Sounds doable, thanks for your feedback.

Maybe it's too heavy for GL-iNet MT6000?

I installed the banIP on Friday and it seems the memory consumption never stops to increase.

Only buffered looks to be increasing over time and did so before Friday. It is not used memory in any real sense - just copies of disk blocks hanging around in memory in case they will be used again. The memory they use will be released if the system needs it for other things.

You have any file sharing / downloading running?

That device has more than enough RAM.

Yes, but before Friday the trend was much slower.
OK, I'll wait more time to see if the buffer will be released.

No file sharing or downloading running.

It's running only Adguard Home with small block lists, which were running without any abnormal load or memory consumption by more than an year (using the stock firmware from GL-iNet. I just moved to OpenWRT an week ago).

The load also increased a lot (from 0.25 to 0.8)

I'm using banip with my flint 2 also and I don't see any memory related issues with it. I'm guessing it might have to do with Adguard Home as that uses memory heavily.

You can install htop and run that to check for CPU and Memory usage realtime.

On my flint 2 other than banip, I've got the following also

  • adblock (same dev/maintainer as banip) - loaded with large blocklists
  • mwan3 (configured for failover, with some domain related direct routing to VPN and/or secondary wan)
  • VPN via wireguard

After rebooting the router on Saturday, it seems it's back to normal:

@dibdot I think ipblackhole feed won't work anymore. It's now behind cloudfront and is requesting "human validation" prompts before downloading the feed.

Lets wait, if they answer your github issue. If not, I'll remove this feed.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that this was changed in banIP 1.5.6-2 (core plus LuCI).

I have already seen it, thanks a lot.

Past seven days:

Service Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.

So it's time to file an issue ticket to the maintainer again hahahaha

This might take some days since I think the maintainer is busy with other stuffs..
