[BananaPi BPI-R3] fstab not loading properly

I got a BPI-R3 about a week ago, and am now working on setting up an extroot for various reasons. Only issue is that the fstab isn't loading properly and I have 0 idea why. I followed the guide for setting up extroot, but after a reboot, it's not automounted, and block detect shows the following:

config 'global'
        option anon_swap '0'
        option anon_mount '0'
        option auto_swap '1'
        option auto_mount '1'
        option delay_root '5'
        option check_fs '0'

config 'mount'
        option target '/rom'
        option uuid '93a9dc76-4c3c726f-c1b2b16a-6a982692'
        option enabled '0'

config 'mount'
        option target '/overlay'
        option uuid 'dfe47f16-e492-4c60-8432-5d23bb115bc4'
        option enabled '0'

config 'mount'
        option target '/mnt/mmcblk0p8'
        option uuid 'd0742c95-7a03-4ccc-8a56-a8cc30bf8aa0'
        option enabled '0'

The actual /etc/config/fstab is as follows:

config global
        option anon_swap '0'
        option anon_mount '0'
        option auto_swap '1'
        option auto_mount '1'
        option delay_root '15'
        option check_fs '0'

config mount
        option target '/rom'
        option uuid '93a9dc76-4c3c726f-c1b2b16a-6a982692'
        option enabled '1'

config mount
        option target '/overlay'
        option uuid 'd0742c95-7a03-4ccc-8a56-a8cc30bf8aa0'
        option enabled '1'

config mount
        option target '/rwm'
        option uuid 'dfe47f16-e492-4c60-8432-5d23bb115bc4'
        option enabled '1'

I have no idea why it's not loading properly, so I'm not sure if I messed something up, if it's a bug, or what else could be going on. I do get this message multiple times during boot, so maybe it's related?

[ 10.666649] block: attempting to load /tmp/ubifs_cfg/upper/etc/config/fstab
[ 10.705176] block: extroot: not configured

UPDATE:
Migrating the install to NAND then re-doing the extroot on the internal eMMC worked. No idea what was going on still. I have the configuration in question stored on the MicroSD still
