Banana pi bpi-wifi5

Hi,
Any chance openwrt could support this device?

I don't see it on the supported hardware list. I'm wondering what would stop it from getting support?
Device is a cheap unit, but what looks like decent specs?
I see there are other banana pi in the hardware list.

Thanks.

Siflower SF19A2890S2 MIPS dual core 1.2GHz is currently a no go, and with only 64MB RAM it'll most probably stay that way.

next time, try a life hack called forum search, before you post.

Ok thanks. Just a note that this page says about RAM: 32MB min, 64MB better.

I did try search but I used b-pi wifi5, not the chipset name. Sorry.

yeah, now 8/64MB RAM devices are discouraged.

no worries.
searching for bpi-wifi5 and SF19A2890S2 would have both lead you to SF19A2890 commit, possible new devices.

which I see you found, since you ended up doing the search

Hello other bpi-wifi5 owner. :slightly_smiling_face:

I've got time to work on this, so there's the commit of the siflower evaluation board from August 2024:
https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=4ed209326b5299584ad22b82d0f5ba0d12ceb169

You can check out openwrt and build 24.10.0-rc7 for this eval board right now.
But as it only has one ethernet mac, and double the ram of the bpi-wifi5 it will not boot on our devices, plus it can only be flashed using uboot recovery.

Sinovoip have released sources, and Lion Wang of Sinovoip has confirmed the below Siflower 18.06 SDK fork should build for our devices:

It only builds on Ubuntu 18.04 and I have not had time to build it, I basically wanted to check the provided sources build before comparing to the mainline commit and seeing if all it takes is halving the ram requirement and adding the an8855r switch, I'm not bothered about WiFi yet, just want to know if the basics build.

Hello :grinning: thank you.
Okay cool.
I will download ubuntu 18.04 and try build it with their sources as is, to see if it builds at all.
Should I update you here, or on the other post thread where this is being discussed?
Thanks!

I suggest you keep everything one one thread, the other one

Other thread, trying to keep all boards in the same thread so if we get one working the others should be simple.

I can't seem reply to you on the other thread, it tells me "reached reply limit, new users temporarily limited to 3 replies in the same topic"

Anyway, does bpi-wifi5 use interAptiv?
What do you think is the next steps to getting latest stable openwrt onto bpi-wifi5?
Thanks
