ASUS USB-50 Wifi Adapter/OpenWrt Router

My build is a RPi4B (4gb RAM), OpenWRT for wireless VPN router.

I have installed OpenWRT and gotten connected to my WAN. It has been able to download appropriate updates. I purchased and ASUS USB-50 wireless adapter for use through a USB 3.0 port. I'm following instructions from a YouTube video, which said to type in "ifconfig wlan1 up". First of all, I did check my device via attached USB device and found it is being recognized (Realtek 802,11ac NIC) in the USB 3.0 slot. When I try to enable the device, it says "SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device".

Please keep in mind - coding nor computers are my trade. I'm doing this for fun, so I may not quite understand all of the lingo. I will do my best to communicate as effectively what my problems and status readings are.

Any help is appreciated.

You should never install updates.

Realtek is usually a dead end for AP, if that's what you're going for, try/buy

If not, lsusb will tell you the pid and vid of the usb wifi stick, so you can install the connect kmod.
