Asus rt-ax59u - WiFi not working

Hi,

I have two Asus rt-ax59u flashed with OpenWRT 23.05.3. One works without problems, but the other seems to get radio0 detected as a 5GHz radio.

If I try to set-up Wifi, it hangs for a while and subsequently not able to discover any hardware.

Router 1 (no problems):

The MACs seems suspect. Could it be that it used to be a node in Asus AiMesh? IĀ“m going to try and reflash stock firmware and set it up as Wireless router, before trying OpenWRT again.

IĀ“m not sure if this is related, but I reverted to stock firmware and getting these weird MAC-adresses:

Not familiar with this platform though, but I bet you won't be seeing these messages on your functional RT-AX59U.

It does look like eeprom load is failing, but not direct firmware load, on the rt-ax59u that works.

I wonder if the weird MAC addresses I see in stock firmware is related to this problem.

Hmm. after a reboot, on the unit where WiFi doesnĀ“t work, the log doesnĀ“t show the failure to load direct firmware, but radio0 is still being detected as 5GHz.

Reverted to stock firmware and contacted Asus support.

After a lot of unhelpful answers from Asus support, I got through to second level and they admitted something was 'odd' with the router. I subsequently got it replaced at the retailer. The new one works!
