ASUS RT-AC1200 v2 OpenWrt performance

Hello

I am looking into getting a device that supports openwrt
I am wondering about the performance of the ASUS RT-AC1200 v2 using openwrt
specifically with reference to the throughput and stability of the wifi.

Would a D-Link DIR-825 C1/C2 be abetter buy

Thank in advance for any advice

It's gonna be slow, though you didn't mention how much you are expecting, but OpenVPN is single threaded and so without hardware acceleration it's even slower.

Where did OpenVPN come from ?

Thanks for the replies.

Mainly going to use it as a router from the fiber box, I have a 50Mbs connection.
I have a dlink dir 882, but I only get about 10Mbits when doing a speed test.
The wifi is horribly poor for some reason. It degrades very fast the more you move away from the router.

Any help, recommendations will be apreciated

Of the 825s, I'd only buy the C1, the other ones got 8MB flashes, and they'll we EOLed by openwrt after next release, due to insufficient flash space.

The RT-AC1200 should work fine, but I'd still pick the C1, it got gigabit ports.

Thanks for the advice frollic,

Will keep a look out for the dlink dir 825 C1. Any idea why the dir 882 wifi is so poor, Is it not supposedly better than the dir 825?

I assume the 882 is one of the supported ones, by openwrt ?

Yes, I installed the latest openwrt version yesterday but was only getting between 10Mbits to 20Mbit on speedtest in the room.
My actual connection is a 5OMbits connection.

Even on the stock Dlink firmware if a remember correctly the wifi is poor.
I have another router that I am using. A totolink that works fine with regard to speeds through wifi

Will a MikroTik hap ac2 be a better buy than the others?
